Job Brief
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at IUNU, you will be responsible for integrating the LUNA system into greenhouses of many shapes and sizes around the world. You will lead performing site surveys, creating detailed installation drawings, and designing new parts to connect LUNA to all mechanical greenhouse systems. You drive these processes from definition to implementation with your strong leadership and technical abilities. You continuously iterate and improve these processes based on new information.
You are familiar with industry standards of tolerances, materials, and safety requirements of various manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on low-volume fabrication strategies for large products. Ideally you have an in-depth understanding of design for harsh industrial environments such as IP67 waterproofing, high thermal loads in varying ambient temperatures, and significant vibration exposure. You have designed and implemented both static and moving systems, with assemblies spanning tens to hundreds of parts.
Responsibilities
- Create, implement, drive engineering processes from initial customer site-visit to final installation of LUNA
- Identify and manage opportunities to improve manufacturing (in house, and contracted) with respect to cost, timeliness, and quality, making the appropriate recommendations and trade offs as necessary
- Design, prototype, source materials, and test mechanical parts to help integrate the LUNA system into a greenhouse using SolidWorks
- Work with various organizations across the company to deliver both high-level and detail drawings for clients at varying stages of the sales process
- Author, maintain, and approve engineering drawings, build processes, acceptance criteria, and continually improve Quality Assurance and Quality Compliance
- Troubleshoot, triage, and fix production issues, design or manufacturing related problems rapidly
- Participate in accelerated testing of components for determining MTBF, lifespan, maintenance cycles and the associated acceptance criteria based upon business needs
- Work directly with the robotics team to design, prototype, and implement imaging devices
Requirements
- 5+ years of demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks with both drawings and 3D components
- Hands on Experience with additive manufacturing practices and operating associated hardware
- Proven track record of delivering solutions that are right the first time, and minimizing engineering-change-orders (ECOs)
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
- BS Degree or equivalent experience
- Direct experience leading a mechanical team and or process
