Job Brief 
 

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for improving and maintaining the mechanical and industrial design of our robotic fleet including their installation and charging interfaces, adapting our camera systems to harsh environments, as well as authoring and/or approving detailed engineering installation drawings and documentation. 


We maintain one of the largest image processing platforms in agriculture with some of the most demanding latency and performance requirements, processing and analyzing terabytes of data on a daily basis with distributed cloud computing applications.

 

Ideal candidates will have an in-depth understanding of designing solutions for harsh industrial environments taking into consideration IP ratings for dust and water intrusion, and thermal characteristics.


Candidates should be familiar with industry standards of tolerances, materials, and safety requirements for various manufacturing processes. and a strong grasp of elegant designs that others strive to learn from and measure up to. Successful candidates will possess drive and ability to self start within a start-up company environment, where challenges are common and clarity of communication is critical.


Responsibilities 

  • Constantly raise the bar for the mechanical components of our robots and hardware installations with a focus on reliability, safety and consistency
  • Identify and manage opportunities to improve manufacturing (in house, and contracted) with respect to cost, timeliness, and quality, making the appropriate recommendations and trade offs as necessary
  • Author, maintain, and approve engineering drawings, build processes, acceptance criteria, and continually improve Quality Assurance and Quality Compliance
  • Be aware of design strengths and weaknesses while iterating on abstractions to ensure lean and reusable components with respect to our hardware design
  • Closely work with Application Engineering and Technical Product Managers to efficiently size, groom and prioritize work items in an Agile Scrum environment.
  • Troubleshoot, triage, and fix production issues, design or manufacturing related problems rapidly
  • Participate in accelerated testing of components for determining MTBF, lifespan, maintenance cycles and the associated acceptance criteria based upon business needs
     

Requirements 

  • 3+ years of demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks
  • Hands on Experience with additive manufacturing practices and operating associated hardware
  • Proven track record of delivering solutions that are right the first time, and minimizing ECOs
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
  • BS Degree or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Linux, command line experience (BASH), and one of more programming languages strongly desired.
